Is it possible to feel joy and pain at the same time?

By Personal16 Comments

We have arrived! After months of planning, weeks of packing, and days of feeling like we just had to be forgetting something major, we are here in Paris. There is so much GOOD to talk about in the next few weeks, but first I have to address something that has rocked our world and grieves us beyond imagining. When we got off the plane in Paris Weston texted us to say we had to call him right away. We learned that our beloved friend, Aaron Rowan, passed away unexpectedly. A friend of mine (Marissa’s) from childhood, Weston’s bandmate and creative musical partner, a spiritual joy to be around, we can’t see why on earth he was taken this morning. Words cannot describe the extreme loss we feel right now. I find myself so rocked with pain that I need to remember that there are others, Weston for example, or Aaron’s sister, who are hurting far more than I am. I need to focus my energy on praying for them instead of wallowing in my own loss.

So here we sit, on the couch in a fabulous Paris flat, conflicted. The golden sun is shining off rooftops across the street, a constant joyful reminder that we are on an amazing adventure with our mothers (which will soon evolve into two workshops and the trip of a lifetime in the coming weeks). The delirium that travel and grief has brought on has also caused us to go into fits of laughter today; using salt in coffee instead of sugar for example. And joy… seeing all the tulips lining the parks, the old couple sitting on the bench holding hands for waaay longer than anyone would in the states, the very french bow-tie-clad professor-ish man across the way smoking his cigar on his very French terrace. I never knew it would be possible to feel joy and pain at the very same time.

I know that Aaron, with his out-of-this-world singing voice, could only have been created by a God who takes delight in such a gift. It has always been my personal opinion based on scripture that God delights in song more than any other beauty. Aaron always seemed like he was too talented for it to be earthly, so I have to believe that tonight Aaron will be singing the most gorgeous song to the King of Kings.

This time with our mothers is too precious right now, and the grieving process has just begun. We have to make the best of our trip as this is a reminder of how short our time is. We will continue to show the good times of this trip through blog posts and videos, obviously editing out the difficult portions of the days. Weston, Noelle, and all of our other friends who considered Aaron a brother, we will be praying for you constantly. How we wish we could be with you all. – Marissa (with Kimberlee and Moms at our side)

Boudoir Workshop testimonial!

By WorkshopsNo Comments

“Hey girls! All I can say is that I am where I am today because of your workshop last April. I have opened the only boudoir studio in Houston. It is girlie and fun and based on so much that I have learned from being at your workshop. I am averaging between 5-10 clients a month. I have a makeup artist working with me full time and as a set assistant as well. … We attended our first bridal show in January and booked 10 sessions just from that. It has taken on a life of its own. Despite all of those very fun things the best thing about this job are the women whose lives and marriages I have gotten to be a part of! We have laughed and cried with our clients! It is the MOST rewarding job ever and not one I could have ever dreamed up. You gave me the vision of what this could be! I will forever be grateful for the time and effort and willingness to share your love of boudoir through your workshop.

Like I said, I would never be here without the vision of what my business could become. People(other photographers) think I am crazy for only doing boudoir but it is what I love and my clients love the fact that boudoir is all I do. Thank you again for all of your mentoring!

Thank you again for all you do for women and for photography!

Imaging USA Boudoir Speakers {Better late than never}…

By Personal2 Comments

So… YES, we realize that Imaging USA was waaaaaaaaayyyyyy back in January 2010. And YES, we realize that by now nearly THREE MONTHS have passed. But, better late than never, RIGHT?! 🙂 M & I were incredibly honored to have been invited to give our speaking presentation, “Boudoir Is The New Black”, as  PLATFORM SPEAKERS at Imaging this year – woohoo!!! We are honored and humbled to say that we were the first boudoir photography platform speakers to grace the stage at a major photography convention since the resurgence of popularity w/ boudoir… and we know it’s because… “BOUDOIR IS BACK!”â„¢ (That was our speaking program title for our 2008-2009 speaking tour!) 🙂 If you joined us for our presentation at Imaging, you will remember that we were COMPLETELY blown away at the turn-out during our program. You guys, honestly, we were expecting maybe 300-400 people (we even printed out just 200 fliers to put on the first 200 seats). You can imagine our utter surprise, then, when we walked into a room that held over 1000 seats. And you can ALSO imagine our complete shock when, on the day of our presentation, there was standing room only… we heard a report that there were up to 1500 photographers packed into that room… and that some photogs were turned away at the door and told to find another room, because ours was already packed! What the….!? CRAZY, right??? Here’s a little video that shows a little glimpse of that day:

*NOTE: If you missed our speaking presentation at Imaging, you may know that we were able to do a mini-version of our presentation for a PPA webinar this last month! If you’re interested in watching the webinar, you can actually download it on PPA’s webinar site! We’re also excited about a few upcoming speaking programs that we have scheduled for 2010 & 2011… and we’re crossing our fingers in hopes that WPPI will finally catch on and let us speak there next year! (We’ve been asking them if they’d let us speak for the last 2 years… we figure it’s finally time for a little ‘divaliciousness’ to take to the stage in Vegas… *wink, wink… we love you, WPPI!) 😉  We know that WPPI may need a little encouragement, though, from our lovely/wonderful friends & peer photographers – SO – if any of you MIGHT be interested in helping us get on stage to share our boudoir love during WPPI 2011, why not shoot a little message over to WPPI? (*another double wink inserted here… pretty please w/ a cherry on top)!

ALSO, we have to give another big THANK YOU to our sponsors from Imaging USA: SHOWIT & BAY PHOTO!!!

Studio Stories | Marissa Takes on the Day

By PersonalNo Comments

Morning everyone! We always say that we have so much going on here, just complete randomness galore. So I wanted to just walk you through about half a day here so you can get a visual of what really is happening in this big ol’ studio. For the most part I feel a little lost through out the day, me n K’s matching dry erase to-do boards are absolutely essential (as I wrote that sentence another to-do just popped into my head and I just had to add it to my board before I forgot what it was entirely, change our Client Lounge to talk about our Supermodel Cinema Boudoir Short on our Supermodel Boudoir Package). Thanks for stopping by our blog y’all. It always amazes me when I look at our google analytics stats and see a combined total of 30,000 plus hits per month on our sites, wow. Who woulda ever thought our wacky world would be so interesting to people. I feel very lucky.

xoxo, Riss

Diane’s Supermodel Session

By Boudoir Photo Shoots3 Comments

Diane came into our boudoir studio for a “Full Photo Shoot” the other day and as many of our fab clients do, somewhere along the line upgraded to our Supermodel Package the day of her shoot. Go Diane! Her images came out so gorgeous and we love that she gave us permission to show them off as most of our clients do keep their images private. And since she was getting the supermodel package she will receive a “Supermodel Short Cinema” by none other than us of course! Since this is something new that we are offering here at THE BOUDOIR DIVAS Studio we wanted to share our “premiere” video with y’all. So here is Diane!… oh and a little bit of me in the beginning. We shoot this with the Canon MarkII and it is edited either in IMovie or Sony Vegas if on our PC. We know we have a lot father to come with video and audio but we are having a blast learning how to shoot video. As we always say, it’s better to be first than to be best!

xoxo- Marissa

If you want to see more like this you can subscribe to our youtube.com channel at http://www.youtube.com/BoudoirDivas
Also – the music used on this video was used WITH PERMISSION from Stacy Clark. She’s awesome – go download some of her music… HOWEVER, do not use her songs! We only use her songs because we have received written permission from her!!!! Thanks! 🙂
