Random footage from 2008…

By PersonalOne Comment

It’s been a very full, and very good, week! Our Feb. workshop attendees were AWESOME! The workshop officially ended last night, so we just wanted to say a huge thank you to all of you wonderful photogs who came to hang out with us at our SD studio for the past few days. We’ll be posting some pics and videos from the workshop soon, but for today, I came across a few random video scenes from 2008… WAYYYY back when we started our silly little video blogging. So here’s a look back for you… Enjoy! 🙂

The San Diego Bridal Bazaar!

By Personal2 Comments

So a couple weekends ago we went to San Diego’s annual Bridal Bazaar held at the San Diego Convention Center Downtown. It was a great turnout and we met a ton of potential clients! We have even booked 4 shoots in just 5 days after the show 🙂 Here is a short recap of the bridal bazaar and what we used for our booth this year.

Thanks to Bay Photo for providing our awesome products!

We were on our local news station!

We LOVE the fact that we’re finally able to say… “BOUDOIR IS BACK!” The Divas’ San Diego studio was lucky enough to be featured on our local news (“Good Morning San Diego!”)

We’re so excited, and so honored to have been featured this morning on KUSI‘s “Good Morning San Diego” show!

Mike from KUSI cracked us up as he told San Diego who and what our boudoir photography studio was about.  We especially loved the boudoir poses he demonstrated! Too funny. They may become a Boudoir Divas staple.

Total hams here, how I love being interviewed for publicity sake! Yes! Thank you KUSI for exposing boudoir photograph’s new fresh facelift.

Here is what happens if you set down a mic in our studio….Ashley and Peggy steal the show, literally. Looks like they had a lot to say. Thank you to Miss Peggy Roggers who hooked us up with majorly fabulous make-up and hair. For those of you booking a shoot with us, Peggy is our in house make-up gal extraordinare. You will be in great hands.

And another thank you to Stephanie who helped us out tremendously as well. It can be hard to be “sexy” at 5am and these
girls pulled it off brilliantly.

A reminder that we will be on the 6:30 news tonight on KUSI! Tune in. 🙂 Just goes to show that if you don’t succeed, try, try again. It took three press releases over a years time to get this fab news station in our door and we are thrilled to say the hard work pair off. Thank you again KUSI.

1. What are you MOST excited about for the upcoming SAN DIEGO workshop? I’m looking forward to learning more about lighting and poses, in addition to marketing a unique photography business like this. I feel I really need help understanding how to light EVERY woman in a way that is flattering. So far, I’ve dealt with glasses, wrinkles and rolls and puckering of the skin. I need to know how to improve on de-emphasizing those details without losing who she is. Also looking forward to meeting other photogs.
2. What do you hope to learn from the DIVAS? Better marketing techniques, proper posing and lighting of my boudoir clients.
3. How many times have you been to SAN DIEGO? Never. But my 17-year old daughter has been and she loves it so she’s coming with (to San Diego — not the workshop 🙂
4. What is your FAVORITE thing to photograph? Women first. Weddings second. Children third. I also have a love of photographing animals…especially dogs. I have two diva dogs myself.
5. Starbucks or Coffee Bean (or neither)? Either one is great. If you are asking about coffee for the workshop. If you are asking for my preference of coffee to find out who I am — I actually prefer tea.
6. Who are you listening to RIGHT now on your ipod? Lady Gaga
7. What is your FAVORITE piece of equipment in your camera bag? My lenses…especially my 50mm 1.4 and my 24mm 1.4
8. What is your all-time FAVORITE snack food? Chips and salsa.
9. When you were a child… what did you want to be when you grew up? An artist. Nothing has changed much…guess I was a smart kid.
10. What one thing in life would you want to remembered for? Reflecting Christ in how I act, speak and respond.

One of our Paris FAVIES…

By Personal5 Comments

Yes, we use the word “Favie.” And yes, we know it’s not a real word. Whatever. Ok, SO… if you watched our video from yesterday (see the next blog post)… you’d know that we’re ABOUT to decide whether or not we’re going to add on an extra workshop week in Paris! All of this Paris talk has got us thinking about how much we LOVE it over there, and we’re already making a plan of all the places we HAVE to see again. At the top of the list is this: The Chateau de Versailles!
versailles
It was one of our absolute FAVORITE places to visit, and while we were there, we definitely channeled our “inner Marie Antoinette!” And, as usual, we had to document our adventures with one of our dorky little videos! 🙂

So we’ve already started planning our next trip to Paris, and we’re thinking about all the things we’d like to do while we’re there. At the top of the list is Versailles again. Last year we spent the whole day in a few of the gardens; we never even got to venture inside the palace! And I also just recently discovered that there’s an entire area that we didn’t get to see last time – Marie Antoinette’s estate, including the Petite Trianon, and her living quarters (such great inspiration for boudoir!) Check out this website for an interactive map (it’s the best map I’ve found for Versailles!) If you’re planning on joining us for the workshop in Paris, we HIGHLY recommend that you stay a few extra days for sight-seeing… and if you’re anything like Marissa & I, who love this time period and all the French inspiration for boudoir, you have GOT to take a day trip out to Versailles. Oh, and also… If you haven’t followed our blog for very long, we should probably explain the 2 guys in the video… first, there’s Marissa’s husband, Weston, who is an amazing photographer – and he’s also in a sick band called Spero Lumina. So then his best friend Brian is the other guy… while in Paris, these 2 were quite helpful with some of the technical details we needed to work out for the workshop (thanks, guys!) They became known as the “Broadies” — and we all had tons of fun in Paris w/ a great group of friends, photographers, and models! What could be better than living in Paris for a few weeks?!
