Experiencing empowerment for the very first time….

By Personal2 Comments

Our church, The Flood, recently did this amazing thing this holiday; we had a Christmas concert and they also created a place where we could shop. But the shopping experience was incredible because every gift, from jewelry to music to clothing, all went to a different cause. I shopped for my fam but also picked up these duds thats I love from Krochet Kids. The shirt has Africa on it which I had to buy in memory of our amazing trip to Uganda. I also loved this hat because this charity is teaching women in Northern Uganda to crochet and then they bring their hats back to the states and sell them for them, giving women a way to provide a much needed income for their family. Many of these women feel that this is their first time feeling like they will actually be able to support their family needs. Inside the hat is also a signature from the woman who crocheted it and I was stoked to find out I could go online and actually learn about her. Here she is….

Her name is PILOYA JENNIFER and she says, “My dream is to educate my children in order for them to have a brighter future since I did not go to school.”
If you would like to buy one of these adorable hats please go to http://krochetkids.org/
Thanks for allowing me to share! x0x0- Marissa

An entire day with the Divas

By Personal4 Comments

I don’t know if any of you would even CARE to know what goes on here at the studio on a daily basis… but if you’re bored and feel like watching all of the dorky shenanigans that happen at the Boudoir Divas’ studio, then check out this video! It’s a compilation of an entire day at our studio (yesterday). This is a pretty typical day for us – full of projects, working, and a little fun thrown in the mix, of course! Thanks for watching. xoxo, Kimberlee (on behalf of Team Diva)

OH WAIT – I almost forgot! Photographer peeps: Marissa ‘leaks’ our secret plan for our WPPI booth… in case you’re interested, it’s around minute 4:00!

(PS… sorry if it takes forever to load this video – it’s TEN MINUTES LONG! hahaha, yeah… we don’t blame you if you don’t wanna watch the whole thing) 🙂 Oh, and have you subscribed to the Boudoir Divas’ Youtube Channel yet???

A Boudoir FAQ: Should I create a new business name if I want to start shooting boudoir?

By Boudoir Tips2 Comments

Hey fellow boudoir enthusiasts!!! One of the most common questions people ask us regarding their boudoir photography business is if we think they need to change their name? Like… do they need a separate name for their boudoir business vs their, say, senior portrait biz? Check our thoughts on that one in the video above. Make 2012 your biznatch….

By Inspiration4 Comments

I don’t usually get into the resolution hype. I am a goal setter in general so I feel like the the whole new year resolution concept is just a way I really hope live my life in general… but, something happened this year. I think I allowed myself to be a little bit lazy the past few weeks in anticipation that I knew that I was going to work 2012. Kimberlee and I always say to “Dare to Dream” and to “make shtuff happen” and so as this new year is upon us I have so many ideas and goals that my head is abuzz with excitement. From studio set revamps to Boudoir International to re-doing our “Workshop in a Book.” But from past experience I know that I really need to focus my time and energy every day in a strategic way to make those things happen, and with that said I need to start every day organized and with a game plan. So I wanted to share with you what my to-do list looks like and invite you to use it if you wish. Here is what it looks like…..

A few tips on how I like to use this thing. So the bottom four blocks are my list of all the things I want to accomplish this week. Then every morning I decide what I will tackle that day, and I add to the day’s to do list. I love feeling like I met my goals at the end of the day, so I select my day’s to-dos without being too overzealous. I try to be realistic. It keeps me calm and then I feel more satisfied at the end of the day. If at the end of the week you haven’t finished all the to-do’s in your four boxes at the bottom, you can always move them over to the new week’s to-do list.

The long term goals are things that take a substantial time to accomplish. I put the overall larger goals there with due dates. Then every week I assign myself smaller tasks to chip away at those.

Another little tip is that I love to put photography goals in my “major goal this week” area. For instance I wanted to improve my “wide open” technique and set an intention to try to get
sharper images at the time I chose to shoot at 1.2 that week. Another week I wanted to master my black and white presets making them look more film quality etc.

So as I sit at my desk for the first time in 2012 I feel so grateful and blessed to be where I am right now; so many of my dreams realized. But I know that God has more planned for K and I, and I am eager to get started. I pray this is new year finds you refreshed, invigorated and ready to make 2012 your bitch! Make it be the vehicle for the life you envision for yourself. And if you are brave enough to commit to your big goal, we would love to hear them! Let’s encourage each other as we start the new year with a serious bang. Love all you fellow Bou photographers!

Hope you’re all having a wonderful holiday break! We’re sure enjoying some much-needed vacation. I (Kimberlee) am hanging out with my family, enjoying being with them and NOT doing work! Well, except for this morning – just HAD to check email once. And while I’m on this computer, I figured I’d just go ahead and post one image (that M shot) of T-Lopez from our shoot with her! We have SO many more photos to post, but here’s just ONE for now.

We had SOOOOOO much fun yesterday at our shoot with the lovely & talented T-Lopez! This girl is going to be the next big thing in music… just wait! She has recently signed with Cash Money Records, and she’s collaborating with big names like Lil Wayne, T-Pain, and Flo-Rida! Her website is under construction, but in the meantime you can find out more about her here. The shoot with T was such an amazing collaboration, and we had such a great time styling, planning, and shooting some killer images (she ROCKED the shoot!) We filmed a little behind-the-scenes footage, so check out the video below for a little teaser. T, you are so sweet – thank you for coming to our San Diego studio for your shoot yesterday.
