REAL Sexy…

By Personal4 Comments

This image was in Glamour magazine this month. All I can say is, “Glamour Magazine, I love you!” This is REAL sexy. A woman who is the typical body type, loving who she is and not worrying because she isn’t a size 4.  This is exactly what we are all about. Loving your body and who your are right now! Whether you are are naturally thin or a little softer around the edges, let’s just truce with ourselves. As long as we are healthy, that is all that matters. Now I just need to be good about reminding myself that every morning!

Thank you Glamour Magazine for confirming exactly why we believe in boudoir photography so very much!

So very boudoir

By PersonalOne Comment

Corneli, a 2010 Paris workshop attendee, posted this on Facebook. It so beyond cool. Tres tres chic to be exact. AND, what I love even more, is that Miss Dior Cherie is MY scent. And, triple cool, is that the commercial was done by Sofia Copola. The creator of the recent “Marie Antoinette” move that was just to die for and an inspiration for the marketing in my early boudoir days. Oh Sofia, can I please just borrow your creativity for just one day. The things I would see and create. Ahhhh. -M

Hot Inspiration

Isn’t this photo just beautiful? I love how soft and delicate the lighting is and the way her top is loosely falling of her shoulder.
We have a similar set up that we use here at The Boudoir Divas, we call it our “Centerfold” lighting. And, this is exactly how we recommend ladies do their hair for their boudoir shoot with us. Lots of volume, rollers, and majorly hairsprayed. It seems like that do is just always a winner in photographs.

Where I am this week…

By Personal4 Comments

Hey everyone!  Kimberlee here… If you haven’t noticed, M has been holding down the fort the past week. I left her just after I finished the Posebook video, so she’s been such a trooper in answering all of the emails and taking care of all of the little issues that have arisen with that. Thank you, M, for taking care of everything and giving me the freedom to leave for a few weeks! 🙂

So anyway, I just wanted to write a quick update to let you know: a) where I am, and b) why I’m here.

a) I’m in Burkina Faso, Africa!

b) I’m here with an organization called Compassion International; I’ve been commissioned as their photographer to document this country and to show what actually happens in the field.  Being here the past few days, I’ve already seen how much this organization has impacted the lives of many, many children & families in real & tangible ways.  Some of you may know that my degree is actually in this field (non-profits/international relations/etc), so this stuff just captures my heart!  I know that there are many different ways of doing development, and I know that there is no one perfect way of doing development. But this organization is doing a lot of great things, and I have been honored to participate in documenting part of their story. My life quote is: “The best use of life is to use it for something that outlasts it.” (William James)… this is something that I want to remember every day, and my desire is to use everything that God has given me in a way that gives back. M & I have never been afraid to openly express our thoughts about our faith. It is the most important thing in our lives, and I know that Marissa (and her hubby Weston) are also on the same page as I am, as far as giving back. They are so awesome, and they are constantly challenging me with how much they give to others. One example: they’ve been sponsoring kids through World Vision for years (their goal is to add one new kiddo for every year that they’ve been married, so I think they’re up to 7 kids now – how cool is that?!) I JUST decided to sponsor my first little girl here in Burkina Faso, after seeing the cool things Compassion is doing in the communities here. I got to meet her and talk to her about her family… I just can’t wait to come back and see her again!

Shooting for Compassion is just one small way that I am able to help out, and honestly I don’t even feel like I’m doing anything huge/great/humanitarian. It really is more of a privilege for ME to be able to do this. This has been my dream for a LONG time – to be able to mesh my 2 great passions together: photography and development. My hope is to bring these stories to life through my images, and to help this organization continue to impact the lives of these beautiful children. [See photos of day 1 in Africa over on my blog]

Being behind the lens this week, I don’t have many photos of myself… but today I just HAD to set my camera down for a few minutes to hold these precious little girls. So someone from the team discreetly snagged my camera and got these shots of me. Aren’t these kids just adorable?

PS – I wonder what M would do if I just don’t come back for about 6 months… hmmm. 🙂 J/K Marissa, I’ll be back soon – I know we have a lot of things to tackle in the coming months. But I know that I will be back in Africa again. The children and their stories have captured my heart.

Rediscovering…

… Some shots from past shoots!  Lots of fun images that I never really did anything with… I think I might design an album w/ some of these shots of Vanessa. Getting ready to travel to Africa (tomorrow morning!) So excited! I’m especially excited about my 2-day stop in PARIS on my way back home. Photos to come when I get back. xoxo -K

Hmmmm…. something’s off here….

marissa_kimberlee Designing a little Paris boudoir promo thingy this morning and I went to use elements from this PSD that K designed for us awhile ago.

While totally adorable K, there seems to be something a little odd about us. First off, didn’t you know that tripods are totally out these days.

And secondly, I personally liked having arms. Did you decide you didn’t like yours? What gives? Lol.

Packing!

I just LOVE all of these little accessories! (All found at my absolute favorite vintage store) 🙂 So I’m in the midst of packing today, and I’ll be gone for the next 2 weeks… first stop: Denver! Then Burkina Faso (Africa), and then just a couple days in Paris on the way back from Africa. I’ll be sure to post pics when I get back home! xoxo, K

and also photographer extraordinaire,  we just wanted to give her a shout out. She posted this image on our San Diego blog last week. I am always so impressed with her and Deena’s work. They have done me proud. Just had to brag about them for a moment.

And this pretty lady featured is Kathie. Thanks Kathie for letting us post your images! – M

Summer reading

By PersonalOne Comment

K knows me well! She got me this book, Shanghai Girls, for my birthday. Lisa See is my favorite author. Last year I was all over her book, The Peony Pavillion. And, the year before that it was Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. She has to be one of the most clever fiction writers I have ever read. And I love that she has researched Chinese culture thoroughly and incorporates it into her novels in a way that makes you feel like you are being given the loveliest history lesson of your life. Her characters are always flawed in a way that makes you identify with them so much more than your average fiction heroine. And, she teaches lessons in her books that sit with me for years even after I read them.

Just wanted to say thanks for the book K! You are the best bitner ever. I will hand it over to you when I am done. – M
