Sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned. For the past two weeks we’ve been planning a SUPERfun photo shoot with models and crazy styling. We were planning on going to some unique outdoor locations, but when we woke up this morning we were more than just a little bit disappointed to find rain pouring outside! So we moved on to Plan B – which consisted of one hour running around, throwing together brand new outfits and working in the studio instead of on-location. It was still a rockin’ shoot, though, and we even got to spend the last 20 minutes outside when the rain cleared for a moment. We can’t wait to share some of the shots! Marissa and I just love our model shoots. It gives us a chance to play around with new lighting set-ups, and to just try out all kinds of different styling and posing. (We try and do one of these shoots every couple of months). Here’s what the lobby looked like when we brought in all of our different outfit ideas and accessories:
We also decided to take advantage of our ‘fun photo day’ by having Weston do a photo shoot for the two of us. SO much fun. Seriously, for two gals who usually hate being in front of the camera… we really had a good time. Thanks, Weston! And we also have to say a huge thank you to our fabulous makeup artist. Catherine is absolutely amazing. She did makeup for myself, Marissa, and both of our models. We couldn’t have been happier with the way it all turned out. 🙂 Check out her site! [Makeup by Catherine]. Here she is working on Marissa:
Photos from both shoots – coming soon! 🙂

When Marissa woke up this morning, she had no idea what the day would hold. Thankfully she’s a very good sport, and so she agreed whole-heartedly to my scheme when I told her about it. So here it is. The premier of Episode #1 of “Marissa Explains It All.” Leave your questions in the comment box and we’ll try to get to as many questions as possible in the next few months!

So after the KISSmas party on Friday night, Westissa & I were driving back to San Diego (we got home at about 4am, after a stop at Denny’s & getting lost – ahem – I mean, taking a little ‘detour’ on the 91/605/405 freeways through LA). Anyway, on our drive home, in order to stay awake, we were playing those silly roadtrip games. My game invention was undoubtedly the nerdiest game ever invented. It was a version of the abc game – you know the one where you name something starting with each letter of the alphabet – only for this version you had to name fonts. Yes, fonts. (ie, Weston starts with a: ‘arial’ – Marissa, b: ‘bickham script’ – Me, c: ‘century gothic’) That only lasted a few rounds, until we laughed at the hilarity (aka supreme photog dorkiness) of what we were actually doing. On to the next game: seeing how well we know each other by trying to guess our favorites. My favorite food. Weston’s favorite guitar. Marissa’s favorite TV show while growing up. All I can say is… you certainly do learn a lot about each other while on roadtrips, even short 3-hour trips. I learned something new! Marissa’s fave TV show? Clarissa Explains it all. This is one thing we don’t have in common, as I never watched this show (I was a hard-core Punky fan). But this insight into Marissa gave me a fun little idea. What if we do a series called “Marissa Explains it All”?! I haven’t told her about this, so I guess I still need approval – but what do you think? We’ll ask her questions about anything and everything (boudoir-related or not). I think my first question for her will be about her favorite places to shop for all her cute clothes.
So, if you have a question for Marissa (about anything at all), leave it here in the comment section! 🙂 On another note – coming this week: a new boudoir tip, photos from the KISSmas party, and our December newsletter (coming tomorrow!)
Hi everyone! Sorry for the lack of blogging this week. Kimberlee and I are a bit all over the place wrapping up with Christmas shoots. There are going to be a lot of happy hubbies this year when they unwrap their sexy boudoir gifts 🙂 We are also prepping for a big shoot on Friday, which I promise we will blog right away. Also looking forward to the KISSmas party on Friday as well. Fun stuff…. crazy, but fun! We will post soon. Promise.

As we have mentioned a million times because we are so excited about it, Woman Captured moved into a giant studio in May and we finally had decor and the “look” finalized in November. So we thought it was time to celebrate. More than 150+ attended and we are so grateful to all of you who took the time to come. Here are a few photos from the night but if you would like to see more you can visit the BOUCHER Blog or our Woman Captured Blog.
Woman Captured has always offered maternity sessions and we book a lot of them even though we don’t advertise/market for them. We also just had one package, which was silly, because if a client came in and wanted to spend more than the average client on her session and products, we didn’t have a defined package for her. So, we just created new marketing to show off our “Simple Session” and our “Package Session” with possible upgrades to the packages after the shoot. With our boudoir shoots we clearly define the specifics of the shoot, (ie. timeframe, outfits changes, what an “outfits change” includes, sets, proof amount, etc) that made booking shoots more streamlined and it was time to do the same with our “Mama” sessions. Now all of our prego moms will receive this new info, I am so excited to see how it effects sales!
Today I am spending the morning watching re-runs of “The Starter Wife” and working on my absolute fav thing, re-organizing and perfecting our marketing. We have always done what we call, “Mama To Be” sessions, but I really want to up jazz up the marketing for it and give it a snazzy “boudoir” twist that fits with the rest of our marketing.
Here is a little teaser of what I am working on…
Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, enjoy “Left Over Day!” Oh, and our “Black Friday Sale!”
xoxo- Marissa

Marissa just sent me a text message that made me laugh out loud, and I decided- what the heck, this is a good random story to tell on a Monday afternoon. So I’m just going to go ahead and bare my soul and share our text-conversation here with the wonderful world wide web. Here’s the conversation.
Marissa: ‘three of us are at seaworld missing you’
Me: ‘noooo! i want to go!’ [I can’t because I’m not in San Diego right now].
Marissa: ‘we sent you a bird picture. he was the scariest bird ever. would you even go in the penguin encounter?’
Me: ‘Yeah, penguins can’t fly at your face and attack your eyeballs. So I’d go in there.’
Marissa: ‘they can belly slide at your ankles though!’
Good point, Marissa, good point. So… yes, I do have a little fear of birds. Not so much an all-consuming fear as described here, but nonetheless, I would just rather stay away from flocks of seagulls and such. And the aviary at the San Diego zoo is not the place to find me hanging out. (It all began when I was a child, and a horribly mean-spirited rooster pecked my leg). Just a little random story that has nothing to do with boudoir or photography or business or marketing or workshops or anything else that we usually talk about here. Happy Monday, everyone! 🙂
When we moved into our new office all of us were thrilled at this glorious new production area. Weston had his own window office and Deena and Crystal started to set up there workstations at two of the four desks in that area. (I think Crystal claimed hers first!). I started to set up my space in the production area as well, a bland, yet very productive looking corner. That’s when I got a very curious “what are you doing?” from Weston, my hubby. “Uh, there is an entire open office three feet away from where you are setting up.” This is where I would usually say I had a “Marissa” moment, one of those too frequent instances where my brain and my reality just can’t co-exist. But, really, I had seen that office over and over, and later found out everyone assumed it was mine, except me! I must have been in the whole “dreams coming true” shock thing. Even 6 months later I have to admit that I really love this little office. This photo was taken awhile ago, it has since had a little sprucing, but when I see this I can’t help but be so grateful to God. I have since declared purple, our production area’s color splash, the official color of gratitude here in our studio. When other little girls were dreaming of their gorgeous wedding, or being actresses, or pretending they were singing to an audience, or nursing cabbage patch dolls, I was pretending I was in my own office, doing something I loved, running a business and being surrounded by my friends. It’s late at night right now, and I am sitting in my purple office alone. I tend to be extra, extra grateful late at night. Thank you God for the amazing surprises you give us when we least expect it!
