My silly fear

By November 24, 2008Personal

Marissa just sent me a text message that made me laugh out loud, and I decided- what the heck, this is a good random story to tell on a Monday afternoon. So I’m just going to go ahead and bare my soul and share our text-conversation here with the wonderful world wide web. Here’s the conversation.
Marissa: ‘three of us are at seaworld missing you’
Me: ‘noooo! i want to go!’ [I can’t because I’m not in San Diego right now].
Marissa: ‘we sent you a bird picture. he was the scariest bird ever. would you even go in the penguin encounter?’
Me: ‘Yeah, penguins can’t fly at your face and attack your eyeballs. So I’d go in there.’
Marissa: ‘they can belly slide at your ankles though!’

Good point, Marissa, good point. So… yes, I do have a little fear of birds. Not so much an all-consuming fear as described here, but nonetheless, I would just rather stay away from flocks of seagulls and such. And the aviary at the San Diego zoo is not the place to find me hanging out. (It all began when I was a child, and a horribly mean-spirited rooster pecked my leg). Just a little random story that has nothing to do with boudoir or photography or business or marketing or workshops or anything else that we usually talk about here. Happy Monday, everyone! 🙂

2 things…. #1, The Birds was filmed 25 minutes from where I live. #2, when my friend and I went to Florida together, we went to the Honeymoon Islands by Kayak and were the only ones there. We were hanging out in the water and flocks of several kinds of birds including pelicans came and were diving for fish literally right next to us. The sound and the feeling was amazing. You… might not have liked that though.

  • Birds was one scary movie! I can sympathize…I have a terrible and consuming fear of Moths. Yeah…Moths. Embarassing i know but I just get terrified. The silliest thing is for some reason its moved to butterflies. Yeah I’ma nerd!

Ok, watch out if you ever go to Austin, TX…. there are tons of loud birds next to the convention center.

The first time I went there, we drove past the convention center at 3am and we heard this LOUD noise outside. I rolled my window down and stopped the car…

There must have been a few thousand birds right in the trees above us. We left pretty quickly.

    You sure those weren’t bats?

Ha Kimee! This is hilarious. She really isn’t exaggerating either. We even bought bird spikes to insure no more nests were built in our entry way. Mama birds are worse that the boogie man in K’s world.

Oh Riss- you’re making it sound like i don’t like sweet little baby birds & cute little nests! I DO. The story behind her comment is this, folks: for about 6 months, there was a cute little nest sitting in the entryway to the studio, but EVERY single day I had to approach with caution… and every day, without fail, that protective mama bird dive-bombed my head. So needless to say, I was a bit of a nervous wreck walking into the studio each morning. Although I think Marissa secretly enjoyed watching my cautious approach out the window each morning with my different methods of trying to make mama bird leave before she could dive-bomb me (ie: throwing my keys at the door from the walkway). Haha, good times. So after the baby birds grew up and flew away, all safe & sound… yes, they did add the spikes to prevent nests & to protect me from future scary bird run-ins at the studio entrance. I will be forever grateful. 😉

HAHAHA! I totally know this about you and remember you (and your fear of birds) often – whenever I see flocks of pigeons just hanging out on the sidewalks. Good times, good times.
Remember that day I put a feather on your pillow? THAT was a good one.
