I’m just finishing my busiest season ever – and I’ve already booked a bunch of work for next year! Anyway – I just really wanted to say thanks.”

Dream fulfilled… Paris Boudoir Workshop… Buh-na-nuhs

By Personal6 Comments

We are thrilled to share with you a slice of an experience that we consider boudoir heaven… Paris! I can’t believe it’s has been almost a month since our Paris Boudoir Workshops. That just seriously blows our minds. Blogging about something this special is one of our favorite things to do, but it is quite an undertaking. We had about 50gigs worth of pics and video and to pour through to come out with just a handful of a few images that might even speak to what this whole “livin’ the dream” of traveling to Paris for what we consider (sorry we are biased) the best type of photography out there… boudoir.

So here goes, a picture book breakdown of the trip….

Well, to say we had an INSANE time, well I’m not so sure that would do it justice at all. We were able to go Paris – which, if you know me and K, it’s basically the only place on the planet that makes our hearts soar as much as Disneyland. And that, believe it or not, is actually saying A LOT. We were able to pretty much combine our four loves: boudoir, Paris, our Diva fam (minus Erin, Lindsey, Sarah who did a killer job keeping up shop back in SD , we missed them imensly) and hanging with other photographers. Does it get better than that??? Nope, I don’t think it does. It is these trips that truly show that if you have that bananas dream in her heart, it totally can come to be.

We also need to thank Peggy Rogers for helping with hair and make-up and modeling. To Deena for modeling AND helping with so much. To the DIVOS, Eric and Weston, for helping with so many little un-glamourous things like techie stuff, cooking breakfasts & preparing lunches, giving help to the attendees, carrying things with your big strong arms, driving small European cars, and calling people and trying your hand at French (saying “bon-sway” instead of “bonsoir” lol). We also had some really sweet models at our workshop. A huge thank you to Michelle, Jessie, Julee, and Aubrey.

After the workshop, Kimberlee, the boys, and I were able to go on a good ol’ European Roadtrip. We hit up Loire, Dordogne, Avignon and St. Tropez. We hope to show off some of those in the future. Man were those some fun times.

To all who love boudoir as much as we do…. “bon-sway!”

I laugh because it’s 11pm and I am having a blast in the office alone…

By Personal3 Comments

LOL. Literally… L.O.L. I am working on our new studio site, it’s 11pm and I am having a freakin’ blast. Albeit my eyes are half shut, my back is slouched and I am hungry, but who cares, this is way too much fun. I lost focus for just a sec and wandered into the interactive internet world and I saw this and literally laughed and laughed. It reverberated through the very empty studio. This couldn’t describe me more at this moment.

I LOOOOVE branding and marketing. It gets me up early in the morning and keeps me up late at night. Hence the fact that I can call my 14 hour day one of the best days this week. I know my Bitner Kimberlee is with me. What flippin dorks. Who’s else is with us? I know we aren’t alone out there. -M
PS. Sorry I keep cussing on our blog Moms (Cecelia & Carol). I know you hate it. And we don’t typically cuss. But every once in a while it make for a very effective an convincing point, does it not?

June Workshop

By Workshops5 Comments

Can we just say… this was SUCH an amazing group of workshop attendees!!! We had so much fun hanging out with all of these amazing photographers. Here’s a little recap video from the Boudoir Workshop – and make sure you watch it until the very end! (Our attendees were left unattended with our video camera… made us laugh out loud when we watched the footage later!) In case you’re interested in joining us for a future Boudoir Divas workshop, we only have ONE MORE LEFT for this year… and we’ll be announcing the date VERY VERY SOON! So stay tuned. To all of our June attendees – we miss y’all already. Thanks so much for taking the time to come out here… for having the business saavy to know the importance of investing in learning the business of boudoir… and for hanging out with us for two days!

And now for a couple of photos from the workshop…

A HUGE part of our distinct Boudoir Divas’ style has to do with the way we light our clients with what we call our ‘hot lights.’ We have a demonstration portion of the workshop where we’ll show you the tips and tricks to create flattering lighting that your clients will love.

Once the demo portion is over, then it’s time for YOU to try it out! We have set up quick stations where each attendee will have the opportunity to work with 2 models for some 1-on-1 time. This is really just our way to let you each have a chance to DO what we have just showed you.

Check out our gorgeous Drop it Modern backdrops! Love these babies! (Oh, and PS… did you know that when you come to our workshop, you’re going to receive a SWAG BAG that is just FILLED with awesome deals, coupons, and fun goodies from some of our favorite vendors?!) Such a huge bonus. Seriously you guys – the cash value of the great deals we’ve hooked up for you is well over 1,000 dollars!!!

Even though you’re working 1-on-1, never fear… the Divas are always right there, just in case you need some help.

During the small group shooting time, you’ll be working in our natural light setting, and also outdoors… this is a great way to practice nailing your exposures, and working on posing.

Did we mention that you will be leaving with a freakin’ KILLER PORTFOLIO?! 🙂 We have to give a huge shout-out and THANK YOU to all of our amazing models for the hard work they put into modeling for us all day long! Thanks, ladies!

We hope to see some of you at our next workshop! (Dates to be announced very soon!) xoxo, K & M

Workshop Attendees in FRONT of the camera!

By Boudoir Photo Shoots, Workshops5 Comments

So it seems that many people get into the photography industry because they love being BEHIND the camera; capturing those great memories and emotions for other people to cherish forever.  But many photographers are never on the other side of the camera, and many actually despise being in front of the camera. 🙂

Well, we at The Boudoir Divas feel it is extremely important to take that leap at least once, ESPECIALLY if you are going to focus on Boudoir Photography.  You will only know how to relate to your super nervous client if you put yourself in their shoes.  This will show you a whole new perspective and outlook on the overall experience.  Plus it will help you with posing, angles and lighting to see it from the other side of the camera!

Many of our Workshop Attendees take advantage of getting their own boudoir photo shoot while in San Diego.  We even offer a 10% discount off the productions for workshop attendees!  We also love photographing workshop attendees because we feel like you all become our close friends after a couple days and it is so much fun!

That being said, I (Ashley) just had to share some photos of the beautiful Lesli, who attended our February workshop.  I had such a blast photographing her and absolutely loved her little southern accent. 🙂

For those of you attending our next workshop in April (spots are still available!), and are interested in your own shoot, email me at info@theboudoirdivas.  If you want to secure your spot for April’s workshop, you can do so on our Boudoir Shop.

Boudoir Workshop

By Workshops4 Comments

Just another little video that explains all about DAY TWO of the boudoir workshop. We usually post videos that show what happens on DAY ONE (shooting, working with lights, working with model-clients, 1-on-1 shooting w/ the clients)… but what happens on the next day? Well, check out this video to see…

Basically, we cover absolutely EVERYTHING you could possibly want to know about boudoir. We honestly don’t hold back ANYthing. Ask any of our past workshop attendees (or read some testimonials here!) We are honored and thrilled to be able to share what we’ve learned with other boudoir photographers. We are by no means perfect, and of course, like anyone else, we have made plenty of mistakes along the way in the boudoir business… which means, we want to share with you what didn’t work so well! We hope to save you from making some of those same mistakes. But we have also made some good decisions, and we’ve seen some great successes – and we want to share with you what we’ve done to get to the point we’re at today. We share all about our business, from shooting to lighting boudoir, to marketing (our fave!), pricing and packages, and setting up YOUR pricing, to post-production and a little bit of album design! It’s absolutely everything. And it’s all about BOUDOIR! (Timeline and more details can be found here)

Our next workshop is February – but it’s of course sold out. 🙂 SO, the next AVAILABLE workshop is April 12-14 (sign up online at BoudoirShop.com). We would love to have you there! If you have any questions about the boudoir workshop, please feel free to email Ashley: [email protected]

February Workshop Attendees!

By Personal, WorkshopsOne Comment

Another boudoir workshop is just around the corner and like always, we ask our lovely photog attendees to fill out a little questionnaire so we can get to know them better before they arrive!  Here it is for you all to enjoy and can’t wait to meet you all in a couple weeks!  This looks like its going to be another fun bunch. 🙂  If you have been thinking about bringing your boudoir photography business to the next level, you may want to consider attending a workshop with The Boudoir Divas!  Not only do you learn literally EVERYTHING there is to know about running a boudoir business, you get to leave with a killer portfolio, and meet other photographers and have an overall blast at our San Diego Studio!  Here is what one past attendee has said:

I am SO glad I attended the San Diego workshop as I not only had a great time and took some phenomenal pictures for my portfolio, but I learned so much about how to launch a boudoir photography business.  As a new boudoir photographer, it was priceless to learn the tips, tricks, secrets, and basics of launching my business the right way from the original Divas!  I told my husband everything we did and he nailed it – “you went to school!”.  I don’t remember school being this fun!  If I did, I would have paid more attention!  Thanks Diva Team!       –Anita Lubke

Our next workshop is April 12-14th and spots are still open!  You can read more about our workshops HERE and you can register by going to our BOUDOIR SHOP.

I’m really excited about everything, the studio, meeting you all, learning all this cute and so interesting things about boudoir, the marketing tips and so on..last but not least, I get to travel to San Diego from Italy which is waaaay cool, so i get to tour a very little bit California with my best friend, and I think this trip will definitely be remembered!!
2. What do you hope to learn from the DIVAS?
I don’t think that there’s something that I don’t want to learn, also because, Italy is really remained in the first 90’s when we talk about photography, so I would love to hear and experience everything different from what I’m used to see and to deal with people more open minded in the field.
3. How many times have you been to SAN DIEGO?
NEVER!! This is my first time in the west coast and I’m sure I’ll have some serious problems when I’ll have to come back home!
4. What is your FAVORITE thing to photograph?
I would say definitely people. They’re such an interesting subject to have in front of the lens, but I like everything..as long as there’s some good ole natural light around, everything take this beautiful atmosphere that is worth to catch!
5. Starbucks or Coffee Bean (or neither)?
Well..since I’m in Italy we have neither of these two, I’ve only tried Starbucks, so my opinion isn’t really balanced, but I guess I have to answer Starbucks!
6. Who are you listening to RIGHT now on your ipod?
hmm right now Taylor Swift, I have a secret celebrity crush on her 😀 hands down.
7. What is your FAVORITE piece of equipment in your camera bag?
50mm 1.4, no doubt on that! And I find myself arguing with every other photographer because I most likely shoot like 60% of my weddings with it, and here it’s considered the most unfitting lens for every kind of shoot. People here use it just for still life.
8. What is your all-time FAVORITE snack food?

3. How many times have you been to SAN DIEGO?
I’ve never even been to California!
4. What is your FAVORITE thing to photograph?
My beautiful little girl! Cliché, I know, but it’s the truth!

Boudoir Divas Product Testimonial

By Boudoir Tips, WorkshopsNo Comments

Got the SWEETEST email last week, and it just made my day!!!! Here it is…

“I wanted to say a big THANK YOU for everything you two are doing for the photography industry. I had no intention of offering this line of imagery prior to going to WPPI last year. I bought your entire package and let me just tell you that it was worth every penny! I am the first in my area to offer “Little Black Book” sessions. I had my first pilot run on Tues. and it was AMAZING! My goal to have women feel empowered, sexy and beautiful was received beyond my wildest expectations. I have no idea why I waited so long to try this. Anyhoo! Enough babbling… THANKS!” Sincerely, Nissa Olson, Ideal Photography

Our workshop attendees ROCK

By Personal, Workshops3 Comments

Everyone loves getting presents or little surprises in the mail (and if you say you don’t, we say liar! 😉 ). But seriously,  technology these days has led to most people communicating via text, facebook (check out our page for clients! haha), blogs, etc.  So when we get a real package in the mail, it is always exciting!  And that exact thing happened last week when one of our October attendees, Jen, sent us an adorable care package/thank you note to our studio.  Check out the picture below to see what she included, but I am OBSESSED with this necklace!  We are trying to get her to tell us where she got it so our whole team can each have one. 🙂  And those cute little corsets are filled with a delicious smelling potpourri (which we currently have hanging in our Studio Dressing Room).

Here’s the beautiful Jen (below). Go check out her site too: Jenerations Photography.  Jen, thanks so much for taking the time to send us that gift and we hope you enjoyed our Workshop!!
